Ponds Adds to Many Awards after DePaul Meeting

Jamaica, NY—Brooklyn native and sophomore guard Shamorie Ponds has had one hell of a start to his February by defeating Duke and Villanova, along with dropping 44 against Marquette. He then recorded a double-double in Chicago against DePaul with 26 points and 10 assists. Ponds was named to the Big East Weekly Honor Roll today.

Ponds was a key factor in the 77-76 victory over the lowly DePaul Blue Demons, where the Johnnies were on a 10-2 run. The fun part, is that Ponds scored six of those 10 points, and added an assist to help seal the deal. Throughout the game, Shamorie Ponds made 10 shots on 18 attempts from the field, and shot 50% from beyond the arc (4/8).

Today’s accolade has marked the third straight week and ninth time this season alone, that Ponds has been recognized by numerous outlets and the NCAA. At this time, Ponds leads the Big East in scoring, as he recorded 26 points or more in each of the last five contests, while averaging a whopping 32.0 points per game in the last five.

The sophomore guard is the only player in the conference that ranks top-5 in points, assists, and steals this season.
